The Complicated World of Health Insurance Made Simple

I was under my parent's health insurance policy until I was 25, and I visited the same doctors I had been to for my entire life. After I graduated from college and began working as an independent contractor, I realized that I needed to choose my own individual health insurance plan. I was overwhelmed with all of my options and had a tough time choosing the right policy for me. Thankfully, my parents helped me choose a plan that not only offered great coverage, but also allowed me to still visit my favorite doctors that had cared for me for most of my life. I know others out there are likely having a tough time choosing the right health insurance policies for them, and I am eager to share what I learned while choosing my policy with others on my new blog!

4 Reasons Why Medicare Advantage Plans Might Be Better Than Medicare Supplements

Are you currently using a Medicare Supplement plan? Lately, you might have been weighing your options regarding switching over to a Medicare Advantage health plan. Here are 4 reasons why making the switch might be in your best interest.

You can't afford your premium anymore

One of the most attractive features of Medicare Supplement plans is flexibility. As long as a physician accepts traditional Medicare, they are also required to accept MedSupp plans. However, these are plans that incur monthly premiums that are far more expensive than Medicare Advantage premiums.  If you're in the position of needing to cut costs, and if your insurance broker can't find you a less expensive MedSupp premium, then perhaps it's time for you to explore Medicare Advantage plan enrollment. You will still receive treatment for your most essential medical care needs. Depending upon your current income status, you might be able to find a plan that charges $0 a month for your premium

You don't travel

Another attractive feature about MedSupp plans is that they're readily acceptable across all 50 states. Again, if a physician accepts traditional Medicare, then they're legally required to accept MedSupp plans. This is a highly attractive feature for seniors who either travel for leisure or find themselves traveling as a way of life. But you might not fall into either of these two groups. Perhaps you're a stationary senior who has planted home roots, and you have no intention of living on the road. Also, you might not have plans for leisure traveling in the near future. Either way, you don't need to pay extra for a medical plan that can be used everywhere. You're probably a great candidate for Medicare Advantage plan enrollment.

You've experienced a decrease in financial resources

Has your spouse or life partner passed away, leaving you to shoulder all of the household expenses? Maybe you relied upon an adult child to help you make ends meet previously, but now your child can't afford to contribute to your finances. Do you currently find yourself buried under a mountain of debt that you're trying to address before you become too ill? These are all reasons why you might be experiencing a change in your financial resources. It would make sense for you to cut out all unnecessary or prohibitive expenses. Medicare Advantage enrollment would make sure that you're addressing your health care needs in a fiscally reasonable manner.

You want a health plan that includes dental care

Perhaps you didn't mind paying for a separate dental care plan previously, but now you're in need of comprehensive senior care that includes dental coverage. Did you know that when you start shopping for Medicare Advantage plan enrollment, you can ask your broker to find a MA plan that includes dental coverage? And many plans also provide Medicare Part D prescription coverage.
